Local procedure

What local probate rules apply?

The clerk’s probate page says an original will must be deposited within ten days and that there is no fee to deposit it. A receipt, if requested, is $7. The same page still describes summary administration and a small-estate request with older dollar figures. Those figures are not repeated here. Florida Statutes § 735.201 is the summary-administration test. The published judge directory does not assign probate to a Palatka judge. The Putnam county page also lists judges the directory places in Flagler. Do not treat the Palatka family, felony, county-civil, or misdemeanor judges as the probate judge until an assignment order says so.

Proposed-order checklist

  1. 1E-file the petition through the Florida Courts E-Filing Portal.
  2. 2Deposit an original will with the clerk within ten days when the clerk’s page requires it, and give the date of death or the last four digits of the Social Security number if available.
  3. 3Do not rely on an older estate-value figure printed on the clerk’s probate page.

Are probate hearings remote?

The circuit directory does not name a Putnam probate judge, and no Putnam proposed-order or hearing sheet was verified. Confirm the current assignment before noticing a hearing.

Can Lauren handle the case remotely?

An uncontested Putnam estate can often be prepared and e-filed without a trip to Palatka. The hearing judge and the hearing format still have to be confirmed, because the directory does not label a Putnam probate division.

Process overview

How does a Putnam County probate move forward?

The exact path depends on the estate and the court’s orders. This overview shows the common sequence for a matter filed in the Seventh Judicial Circuit; it is not a filing checklist or a promise of timing.

  1. 01

    Open the estate

File the petition, original will when applicable, death certificate, and required supporting documents.

  2. 02

    Court review

The Clerk processes the filing and the assigned division reviews petitions, checklists, and proposed orders.

  3. 03

    Administer assets

Address notices, creditors, inventory, taxes, property, and distributions required for the selected process.

  4. 04

    Distribute and close

After court requirements are met, distribute the remaining assets and complete the steps needed to close.

2026Threshold

Florida Summary Administration may be available when the estate subject to administration, less exempt property, does not exceed $150,000 or the decedent has been dead for more than two years, subject to the other requirements of Florida Statute § 735.201.

Court costs

What does probate cost in Putnam County?

Court filing fees are separate from attorney fees. Lauren reviews the estate before confirming the legal scope and whether flat-fee representation is available.

These figures combine the filing fees in Florida Statutes § 28.2401 with the additional $4 service charge that subsection (3) adds to formal, ancillary, and summary administration. A caveat is $40, and disposition without administration is $230. This clerk’s probate schedule was not available when the page was checked. Confirm the total before filing. The clerk’s probate page lists a $7 receipt for a deposited will and no fee to deposit the will itself. It does not post the formal or summary filing totals.

Clerk servicePosted fee
Formal or ancillary administration$399
Summary administration — estate under $1,000$234
Summary administration — estate $1,000 or more$344
Caveat$40
Disposition without administration$230
